A Chapter of My Interesting School Life: Tuesday - Last Academic Day of School

Hmm how should I start?

Met Joelle on the bus and wished her an early happy birthday, after which she started talking about physics olympiad assignment. I suddenly remembered that I have not started at all. I felt bad about not doing it, but I feel equally bad using up my reading days not studying and doing a physics enrichment worksheet. :(

Then I went to the usual pillar when I reached school. Sourav came later, and he told me that he did not bring wrapping paper because he thought that I said we should use newspaper to wrap it, but what I actually said was we COULD use newspaper to wrap it, until sourav said that he had wrapping paper. Oh well.

During English we played Taboo. Then things start to get interesting when everything started linking themselve up to eugene.

Hinters: "You laugh at something ____?"

WL: "?"

Hinters: "Eugene is a ?

WL: "Retarded?"

Hinters: "Nononono!"

WL: "Joker?"

The word was 'funny'.

Then...

Hinters: "OH! Eugene and ****** is a? "

Me: "Couple!"

Yay! I guessed the word.

Then the word microwave came out, and people started making high pitch nasal noises, but apparently the guesser did not understand.

Then a 301 guy came in to join us.

Hinter: "When someone does not win he is?"

Another hinter: "Eugene is a ?

Guesser: "LOSER!"

Yay once again. That was not very nice but thats what the whole class think of that guy. And he seem to not mind very much either.

Then it was Chinese lesson. I got back my essay with 51.5/70. I was so happy because that was the highest I have ever got in HCL. I used a lot of 'good sentences' according to teacher's comments, so I guess I should go read up more about them.

Chemistry. We went through Chemistry quiz and then went through our CA marks to check. Ms teh saw that I did not bring my file so she asked how I was going to check my marks. I just replied that if the marks are high enough it means that there shouldn't be any problems with them.

Then it was half hour lunch time. Sourav came to my class to wrap the present with newspaper, and he did not want to write a note either, so he took my card (now our card) and wrote a note on it to joelle. Then I used green pen to double arrow in his name in front of the card in addition to my name.

Then we found some ribbon at the front of the class and could not acquire any scissors since it would be rude to go through everyone's pencil case in class, we went out to the lockers and rubbed the ribbon, tugged it and broke it. Then we used it to wrap it around the newspaper and sourav's knots were not very tight so the ribbon kept on falling apart. Finally we got it and tied it through the hole on the card, and the ribbon fell apart again. So we could not be bothered with it anymore. And then lunch was almost over and my classmates came back to class and talked rubbish when he saw that sourav and I (more emphasis on I) got a present for joelle.

Then sourav and I went over to 305, but joelle was not in class, so I told sourav to give it to her when she was back, but he did not want to, so I went in and left it in her bag, but a whole group of guys told me that I had to give it to her myself or something like that, and I told them that I had lessons then. So they said that they had lessons too and held me back by forming a circle around me and not letting me run away until I gave the present personally, but I managed to break the circle and run away. Unfortunately my math teacher was not there yet, so sourav walked past my class and I tossed the gift over to him and it hit his head. So he picked it up, passed it to dillon who passed it to me once again. Once again I was stuck with it.

Not like it would be any better, since my class ended one hour earlier than 305, and there was two days of schoollessness after that day, so I just put it in her bag once again, and I was safe, because my math teacher was in class. No lunch for me :(

And then some people spouted nonsense that I do not want to know but unfortunately I do, when Joelle went back to class.

But my one and only excuse for not giving her the present personally remains firmly as:

1) I had lessons.
2) Sourav was being extremely unco-operative.

Fine make that two.

Getting a Present

I met sourav just as I was alighting off the MRT yesterday. I was planning to go to get a present so I told him I was going to look around at some stationary.

So we went to popular bookstore and looked around at bendy rulers and markers. Then really not being able to make up my mind, I told sourav I was getting a present for joelle's birthday, and asked him what I should get.

He suggested photoframes, but nearly all of them were grey and metallic so that did not look very birthday-ey. Then he suggested we share cost for the present.

Sourav suggested we go to the pink section, which was totally appalling. We went there and left immediately.

Then we saw rectangular metal tablets which had words of kindness and friendship engraved on it. We considered them for a while, and picked out the not too cheesy ones from the overly cheesy ones which would seriously give people wrong ideas. However, after much consideration, we realised that most importantly, none of them said happy birthday, so buying those would not be too meaningful, or even seem wrong.

Once again we went back to the stationary section. It seems that stationary was the most suitable thing to buy in Popular@whitesands. I looked at the price of a set of coloured markers. Seemed too expensive for its worth. So we dropped it.

Next we looked at bendy rulers. Does not seem that useful. We were mentally trapped on what to buy. Then sourav digressed and told me about how his sister makes a list of everything in the store and crosses them off one by one when she goes shopping.

Then we saw some expensive branded pens in a glass cabinet, which gave him an idea. Sourav said that there was a shop with cheap(not cheap, just not expensive) branded pens which gives free engraving too, so we solved our present problem.

There is this shop along the walkway from the interchange to the mrt station, called "love and cherish" so we went into there and got a $22 red parker pen and engraved Joelle's name onto it.

We had finally bought a gift. I was left with no more money to solve my hunger problem though, but I am sure there would be food at home.

I reached home at around 7:30, did a little writing before doing up a birthday card. Just like last year, I drew an animal, because I was not too good at design. I could only rely on drawing. Last year, I drew an elephant, so this time I tried for a giraffe, but was unsuccessful due to incompetent skills. So I drew a whale and finished in 10 minutes.

The tough part was the message. What should I write? Thinking of something true, yet not too cliche and something meaningful was hard. Hearing the noise in my house of my brothers and mother made it even harder to think(and it was 10pm already, typical in my house). As I sat on the swivelling chair, I shut the lid of the laptop and rested with eyes struggling to keep open amongst the noise. Finally, my father told me to go to sleep so I went, hoping to think of something when my brain refreshes. Before I knew it, I fell asleep in probably less than 3 minutes.

A Chapter of My Interesting School Life: Monday - second last academic day of school

Today had been a rather exciting and eventful day.

It started off with the usual meeting at the pillars before morning assembly. Cmc and Ben were talking about bdae presents. Oops, I forgot that it was nar's bdae today. So sorry for that.

Then it was chinese. Without any surprise, chinese teacher came late for lesson by half an hour due to her blur mind. Wenbo was rushing his overdue work frantically.

Then it was Phyz Ed. We played softball for real for the first time. It was quite fun, but the sun was uncomforting. It could also get irritating at times, when I knew I had the ball, but it just jumps out of my grip.

Finally, it was 302 split into two teams versus each other. It was rather irritating that the batter before me was the third batter to be out, so I did not get to play batter at all after waiting. How boring.

A few of us, Daniel, mario, eugene and I etc. gathered in class. Eugene was complaining about how he is always getting bullied :'(. And for some reason too complicated to re-enact in words a comical scene ensued, where mario took tung's chem file and whacked eugene's right arm, which broke.

Don't worry it was the file not the arm.

Okay then eugene got rather pissed so he went, "OH you are so dead!" and picked up his water bottle uncapping it at the same time. towered over the retreating Mario and flipped the bottle over, sending a cascade of water down his hair, and onto wenbo's table, shirt, tie, long overdue chinese essay which he is in the midst of doing.

Then people came in and started rumours that eugene peed on the floor.

Eugene: "If it was my pee will it smell so nice?"

W: "Fred, does it smell nice?"

Fred : *shakes head*

Fortunately wenbo was not at the scene, but he was rather upset when he found out.

Mathematics flew past, and so did English and Chemistry Quiz. In English I got 19.5/30 for a formal letter and the teacher wanted to see me to tell me about me not having enough elaborations and too many sweeping statements. The truth is, I know that, but I cannot stand writing what I think are obvious and redundant statements meant to "elaborate" when all they are doing is assistance in my logic, should the reader have bad comprehension skills.

At four, it was the farewell assembly for year 6s. I found the skit really, really good. Later, there were singing performances and people clapped to the rhythm, which I did not. I find that clapping is simply disrupting the performance, and if there is meant to be clapping the performer would have said "Come on clap along" or something like that.

After the assembly people were struggling to get outschool through the rotating gate. That new add on to school is nothing but a hindrance. So just like what many other people did, I sat down at the amphitheatre watching the crowd diminish and exit the school first.

On the MRT going home, I was rather tired. After finally getting a seat when the train passed bedok, I leant against the glass panel and thought about the day. It was when I remembered how I forgot about a birthday today, and it was Joelle's birthday on wednesday, and that there was no school that day.

I had better get a present when I alight at Pasir Ris, but what should I get. Then as I got of the train, I met sourav.

Continued on next post: Getting a Present

Last Tour

Saturday's tour finally ended the "volunteering" work of giving free guided tours at botanic gardens.

Firstly, it is not even volunteering, it was a compulsory activity for all who took a certain module.

Secondly, we are expected to find our own customers, can't the management just do something about it and let people sign up beforehand? Rather than making us go around begging people to go along our tour like desperate people.

So I was rather glad when this was no more.

Natalie asked me: "You want to move over there?"

Me: "For what purpose?"

Natalie: "I know you don't want do right? Last time already just do."

Me: "Anything anything"

So we moved to the other bench nearer to the entrance and Natalie started revising chemistry while I did a puzzle book.

Just to liven things up, I asked Natalie whether we should try asking a family going in. To my surprise (or disappointment), they agreed to go on our tour. So there. At least we were making use of our time.

So we led them around and talked inorganizedly, adding stuff in between our sentences or correcting what we said before, or even talking different stuff at the same time (so either natalie or I had to shut up).

Glad its over.

Though it might be the last tour, it is still not the end of work at Jacob Balles Children's Garden in the Botanic Garden.

There is this APEC thing which I don't know what it really is but all I know is that important people are coming so we have to guide them around and talk about the exhibits. So my friends and I got excused from morning school last Friday.

I was in charge of the sugarcanes with trang, joelle and dorothy. There was laughter and talking, rehearsing of scripts, but not for long, as discussion material soon ran out (for me at least). So under the hot sun I sat on a chair and almost dozed off...

Until it was time to go. We finished early.

Next Friday will be the same. We get excused from trigonometry exam. But we still have to do it later that day.

The Sky is Falling!

The sky keeps on flashing, but it does not seem like lightning.

And as I turn on my speakers, everything my computer plays sounds a major 3rd higher.

The backspace sound when there is nothing to backspace and you keep on trying to sounds higher.

My msn alerts sounds higher.

Even Chopin's etude in c sharp minor sounds like f minor.

Whats wrong?

Maybe its just alien interference.

Better start looking out for dropping acorns and collapsing stop signs.

(I am not sure what is going on myself so please don't take my assumption seriously at the moment okay? Thank you.)

Don't let Monday go away!

A busy week.

Trigonometry journal was a 1 hour's work the day before submission. I realised how fast I could do things if I only put my heart at it.

But still, I have yet to complete a lot of chinese homework. As of last week, I had 2 sui bi/jian bao to do, two formal letters(one of which I got scolded for was overdue by a term, because the teacher was so forgetful to give me the assignment despite countless reminders) and now an essay.

So far I have managed to complete a three quarter page of foolscap jian bao, which was only because I chose a 3 sentence long article to write about, so I did not have to read so much.

And I just finished my one term overdue formal letter.

So now it is left with and essay, one formal letter and one jianbao/suibi.

And there is chemistry worksheet to be done too.

And I suddenly remembered that I have not touched my chinese tuition homework either as usual, which I will do tomorrow.

At least its school holiday on monday, so I need not worry about cramming everything into sunday.

I must remind myself to make full use of Monday, so as to not waste the little time I have left before the exam starts.

Piano duet concert

Very long since I have last attended a concert, or stayed in school till such a late time. (well not too long, just the end of last semester).

After having gone through 2 hours of physics olympiad lesson, in which the teacher went through the 'hints', or answers more like, to the assignment, I went to the library to complete my chemistry worksheet.

Then I went to eat a little, and went to Citybite(however you spell it) for dinner with Jens. I packeted a subway veggie delite, and it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Jens and I then met Ruthanne, Sheena and Crystal.

Then we went to buy some consumables at NTUC Fairprice while the three girls went back to school first.

And then we met up once again in school and played monkey with winnie the pooh plushie.

Finally, it was time to leave for Yong Siew Toh for the concert.

It was a piano duet. The first few Spanish dances were quite nice, but it turned horrible from there onwards.

Berton wrote professional feedback on some of the countless ways on how they could improve.

"The pianist said the song was about love, but the piano sounded like they hated the song." - Berton Lim

The contagious "injury"

It turned out that my 5 year old brother was spouting nonsense; he was only hit on the butt not the stomach. No traces of physical injury found. That thing in the stomach was a viral infection. I was wondering whether he had passed it to me...

On Thursday I woke up feeling a bit cramped around the stomach. I saw my breakfast - slabs butter and strawberry jam on bread, which killed my appetite, so I just ate a piece of bread.

Still, I felt bloated and thought that it was probably the after effects of having 2 large cups of Soya Bean Milk (approx 600ml) the previous night. I remained in a bracing position through out my journey to school, hoping that the feeling will go away. However, the moment I started to walk, it started coming back.

At Buona Vista Station, I walked so much until my stomach gave way and I found a corner in time to vomit. It shouldn't have been the milk, I could easily handle 3 cups of fluid, if given time. Ahh, it was probably something wrong I ate. Now that I have expelled it, shouldn't be a problem. Fortunately I left my old shirt in my bag, so I wiped my mouth with it. Yuck.

Feeling much better, I went to school as per normal, but stayed in the toilet before assembly started.

Later, I started to have a little headache and as I drank a bit more water, the bloated feeling came back. Knowing that this was no good sign and I would not last 2 hours more, I called my dad and I went home.

My dad and I went to the polyclinic that afternoon.

Nurse: "Hello, why did you come here?" (As if we came here for a picnic)

Dad: "Feeling sick?"

Nurse: "Do you have a temperature?"

"I suppose so?"

"How high?"

"I don't know"

Takes temperature.

"Now would you like to donate $2 to the ...and get a free...." I shut down after that didn't hear what she said exactly.

Dad: "No thanks I think we will go and see the doctor first."

That was interesting...

After carbon tablets, fever medicine, headache pills and gastric medicine(horrible), I felt much better by the next day, but stayed at home. :)
